On April 23, 2025, in Covington, Kentucky, the city's Parks & Recreation staff unveiled the 2025 Program Guide to the Covington Board of Commissioners. The upcoming year promises a wide array of youth programs, events, and conservation efforts.
Mayor Ron Washington expressed the importance of parks and green spaces to families, stating, "The City’s Parks & Recreation staff know how important our parks, playgrounds, and green spaces are to our children and families, and –as they do each year – they have planned a year full of outstanding activities and events."
Parks & Recreation Manager Greg Stacy mentioned the variety in the 2025 lineup: "We’re bringing back all the favorite programs and events that people in The Cov look forward to and enjoy, plus we’ve created new and expanded programs." New initiatives include Monarch Pledge events, youth fall soccer, and volleyball.
Residents can expect programming such as Concerts in the Park and Shakespeare in the Park by the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra at Devou Park's Bandshell. Additional events include Astronomy Nights at the Volpenheim Pavilion.
The complete guide will be accessible online, with printed copies available at various locations like public libraries, churches, schools, and City Hall.
Key programs in 2025 include Cov-tivities, Story Time in the Park with the Kenton County Public Library, and Youth Soccer. Skills development is offered through Archery Mini Camps. Meanwhile, the Historical Walking Series will delve into Covington's past.
Volleyball has been added to this year's schedule, with sessions on Thursdays at Goebel Park. Other activities include a Co-Ed Softball League at the Bill Cappel Youth Sports Complex, Movie Nights in the Park, and weekly pickleball events.
Prominent events include the Youth Fishing Derby on May 11 at Devou Park's Prisoners Lake, Opening Day at the Pool on June 7, Pups at the Pool on August 3, and the Jack-O-Lantern Festival on October 18.
The wellness program lineup, in partnership with the Kenton County Public Library, includes mindfulness meditations, Tai Chi sessions led by Master Greg Fahey, and yoga practices.
