Covington, Ky. – Read Ready Covington is launching its annual reading challenge on March 4 for children from preschool to 3rd grade. Participants have the opportunity to win prizes by engaging with the Footsteps2Brilliance and Clever Kids University digital apps.
Mary Kay Connolly, director of Read Ready Covington, emphasized the importance of early literacy development supported by parents and caregivers. "People often think learning to read is a natural process and starts in school. Actually, the first and crucial knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes about learning occur starting at birth with active encouragement and participation by the adults in a child’s life," said Connolly.
The reading challenge encourages families to spend at least 75 minutes each week reading stories and songs through these apps. Children who meet this requirement will be entered into a weekly raffle for prizes over the five-week period.
Children ages 3 through 3rd grade in Covington have access to these bilingual apps on various devices. Progress is tracked through individual accounts, allowing parents to monitor their child's achievements.
Read Ready Covington's initiative aims to foster literacy among young children in collaboration with community partners across the city.
