Volunteers are set to participate in the third annual "Plogging Across the Bluegrass" event this Saturday in Covington, Kentucky. The event blends exercise with community service as participants jog or walk while picking up litter.
"Plogging," a term derived from the Swedish word “plocka upp” meaning "to pick up" and combined with "jogging," promotes both fitness and environmental stewardship. Sheila Fields, manager of the City’s Solid Waste & Recycling Division, emphasized the event's focus on camaraderie and community.
Participants are invited to gather at 10 a.m. at West Sixth Covington Haus brewery located at 100 West Sixth St. From there, they can select one of three routes, each approximately two miles long and expected to take about an hour and a half to complete. Afterward, attendees can return to West Sixth for drinks and enjoy a complimentary lunch provided by Smoke Justis restaurant.
The City is organizing this initiative in collaboration with Keep Covington Beautiful, part of The Center for Great Neighborhoods program.
