COVINGTON, Ky. – The annual NKY Restoration Weekend is set to take place on Saturday, May 17, at Newport Intermediate School. This event offers expertise and resources for those interested in the restoration and maintenance of historic homes.
The event is sponsored by Covington Economic Development’s Historic Preservation Office, among others. Registration closes at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 16, but attendees can also register in person on the day of the event.
The weekend will feature a variety of speakers covering topics such as plaster repair, wood window rehabilitation, box gutters, repointing masonry, energy savings with storm windows, applying for Kentucky historic tax credits, and financing for historic properties.
Kaitlin Bryan, Covington’s Historic Preservation Specialist who helped organize the event and will be presenting there said: “This is a great event whether you’re looking to understand the historic home you purchased, learn how to fix problems in old buildings or simply connect with artisans and tradespeople with specialized skills.”
NKY Restoration is a group made up of business representatives, non-profit organizations, and Historic Preservation offices from Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati. They aim to foster interest in historic preservation and local history while providing homeowners with solutions for their restoration projects.
Attendees are encouraged to register early as the event typically attracts up to 300 people. Additional information about registration can be found online until April 26. Free parking will be available at the school lot along with complimentary coffee and snacks provided by Biggby Coffee. A free lunch will also be served by local restaurants.
