Covington Parks & Recreation is seeking to fill 10 to 12 lifeguard positions before the opening of its swimming facilities in early June. According to Parks & Rec Manager Greg Stacy, staffing shortages could affect pool operating hours. “If we’re not at full strength, it could jeopardize the hours our pools are open,” he said.
SwimSafe Pool Management, the City’s contractor, is organizing a hiring event on Thursday, May 1, at the Kenton County Public Library’s Covington Branch from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The event encourages families to inform potential candidates about the opportunity. Attendees are required to bring a valid photo ID.
The position offers an hourly wage of $15. SwimSafe will provide free lifeguard certification and pay trainees during the certification process. Applicants must be at least 15 years old, with no maximum age limit, and positions are to be filled by May 31.
Lifeguards will work a 40-hour week, with pools set to open on June 7. Pool hours will be from noon to 6 p.m. Those unable to attend the hiring event can apply via SwimSafe's website, by phone at (859) 292-2151, or in person at the Parks & Rec office located at City Hall.
The city operates two water facilities: Randolph Park and the Latonia Water Park/Splash Pad. Approximately 75 to 100 swimmers use these pools daily, and around 3,000 households annually register for pool passes. Passes can be obtained by completing an application either online or at the pool.
Stacy concluded with an appeal for potential lifeguards: “Don’t let empty lifeguard chairs hold back the swim season,” he said. “Step up and make a splash!”
