Covington has appointed Bre Gaffney as its new Finance Director, bringing with her over a decade of federal experience. Gaffney's background in financial management includes significant roles within the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Energy. Her expertise covers managing intricate budgets, handling major program shifts, and strategic planning, focusing on community-impactful results.

In her words, "I’ve spent more than a decade working in public service, including roles at both the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, DC." Her professional journey has equipped her with skills in budget management and strategic initiatives.

Mayor Ron Washington expressed confidence in her capabilities, stating, “Bre Gaffney brings a wealth of experience that will help protect and strengthen the City’s financial position.” He anticipates her leadership will introduce innovation to the finance department and positively affect the city.

Gaffney is eager to collaborate with her team to benefit the community. She noted Covington's distinctive combination of history and energy, adding, “Covington has a unique mix of history, creativity, and momentum, and I’m looking forward to helping support its growth by strengthening its financial operations.” She is particularly interested in the ongoing projects like the new City Hall and the Central Riverfront District revitalization.

Previously, Gaffney launched and directed a division that managed appropriations and allocations, enhancing transparency and oversight for a $7.7 billion budget. She ensured this budget conformed to federal guidelines and aligned with strategic objectives, focusing on transparency and trust through stakeholder communication.

Recently, Gaffney relocated to Cincinnati with her family, anticipating life in the community with enthusiasm. She remarked, “We look forward to building a life in a community where our four-year-old son Dax can grow up feeling grounded, supported, and part of something special.”
