The City of Covington, Kentucky, has extended support to seven businesses through its Small Business Program. This initiative is designed to foster private investment, create jobs, and enhance the business environment in the area. The Covington Board of Commissioners approved rent-subsidy and façade improvement incentives this week as part of the program's third funding round for the fiscal year.
Patrick Duffy, Covington Business Retention and Expansion Manager, commented on the program's impact: “This latest round of small business incentives reinforces the area’s reputation as a welcoming destination for both startups and established businesses.” He emphasized that their team aims to simplify doing business in the city while supporting growth.
The total incentives awarded amounted to $39,300. Six new businesses received rent subsidies alongside one commercial façade project. Among those benefiting are Carmelo’s restaurant at 434 Madison Ave., Galaxie Bar located in the former Acme Lock Building on Madison Avenue's Westside neighborhood, Maverick Chocolate Co., Merriman Anderson Architects Inc., N.E.T.’s Effect LLC founded by Jacquie Jordan, and West Sixth Brewing Co.
A $6,000 façade improvement grant was also given to Pike Street Lofts Condominium Association Inc. for building enhancements that adhere to historic preservation standards.
Since its inception in 2017, Covington's Small Business Program has supported 162 businesses or projects. Applications for the final funding round are open until May 9.
