The City of Covington announced that plans were initiated at the November 26 board meeting to implement changes to its governance structure.
According to the City of Covington, the Board created an ordinance to amend Section 30.05 of the city's code of ordinances to accommodate this change. Chapter 30 of the code sets procedures for communications between the Board of Commissioners and staff. This amendment is expected to improve government efficiency.
In a recent election held on November 5, 2024, 61% of Covington residents voted in support of this change.
The change authorizes the mayor to inquire about the duties and actions of the City Manager between Board of Commissioner meetings. The objective is to enhance communications between the Administration Department and the Commissioners. This adjustment allows the mayor better insight into the full scope of his executive administrative authority after the anticipated 2027 change in government takes place.
