The city of Covington, Kentucky, is set to commence its annual residential street cleaning initiative on April 1. This campaign, organized by the Public Works Department, is an essential exercise aimed at maintaining street sanitation and facilitating proper drainage.
Residents are urged to cooperate by moving their vehicles—a necessary step to ensure the street sweepers can effectively clean the streets. "Sweeping streets regularly is more than just a matter of making the streets presentable, it’s also a sanitation issue and a drainage issue," remarked Troy McCain, Supervisor of Public Works’ General Maintenance Division. He further emphasized the importance of keeping curb lines, gutters, and streets free of debris to prolong the lifespan and functionality of the infrastructure.
The street cleaning project will extend until May 23, covering each street across a two-day period. On-street parking will be restricted on assigned cleaning days to facilitate this process. Ignoring these guidelines might result in a ticket for vehicle owners. To avoid penalties, residents can check the street sweeping schedule online by entering their address or by looking for signs posted a day before cleaning in residential areas.
Additionally, McCain noted that the street sweeper operates from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and usually finishes before lunch. Residents who plan to be on vacation during this period are advised to check the schedule in advance to prevent any issues with street sweeping and ticketing.
