Early Childhood Fun Fest returns with engaging activities for young children
Elizabeth Wetzel Director of Special Projects & Inter-Governmental Affairs | City of Covington

Read Ready Covington's annual Early Childhood Fun Fest is scheduled for Friday, June 20, at the David Housley Pavilion in Randolph Park. The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is free for families with children aged six years or younger. This year, the festival has been moved from fall to summer to better align with school preparation schedules.

Mary Kay Connolly, Director of Read Ready Covington, explained that the timing change allows for more developmentally appropriate activities and provides programs like HeadStart and preschools additional time for early registration. "This is an opportunity for families to engage in developmentally appropriate games and activities with their children," said Connolly.

The event offers various activities designed to enhance early childhood education. Among them is the Mobile Learning Adventure sponsored by PNC’s Grow Up Great initiative, which features interactive exhibits such as a Match Board and Costume Wall. Families can earn sticker badges as they participate in these activities.

Other attractions include a Box Play activity hosted by Funshine, where children can explore creativity through building and redesigning cardboard boxes; Keep the Beat activity organized by James E. Biggs Early Childhood Center, allowing kids to create music using pots and pans; and Animal Adventures featuring a petting zoo from Hillview Farms.

Additional resources include free Family Guides provided by the Kentucky Department of Education while supplies last. Refreshments like pizza, popcorn, and beverages will be available thanks to sponsors NKCAC HeadStart, Read Ready Covington, and Kroger on Madison Ave.

Read Ready Covington aims to foster literacy among young children through community collaboration so that they become educated citizens in the future.
