Covington Police promote Ashley to lieutenant, Crank to sergeant

On March 27, 2025, the Covington Board of Commissioners announced the promotion of two police officers. Sergeant Aaron Ashley has been advanced to the rank of Lieutenant, while Specialist Kody Crank has been elevated to the rank of Sergeant.

“These officers are an integral part of our Covington community, and I am thankful for their service,” said Mayor Ron Washington. “We should all be proud of their dedication and professionalism."

Ashley, who joined the Covington Police Department in 2018, previously served as an officer with the Ashland, Ky Police Department for three years. He holds a bachelor's degree in criminology from Morehead State University and is a graduate of the Department of Criminal Justice Training's Academy of Police Supervision. His roles have included Second Shift Sergeant and SWAT Team Squad Leader, as well as prior duties as Field Officer Training and Bike Officer.

Crank became part of the Covington PD in 2017. He possesses two bachelor's degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, and a master's degree in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati. His roles within the department have included Patrol and SWAT Team.
