At Holmes High School, students achieved a college readiness rate of 21% on the reading portion of the ACT for the 2022-23 school year, according to the Kentucky Department of Education.

On average, students scored 15.6 in reading during the 2022-23 school year, compared to 14.4 in the previous year.

Reading proficiency in the school rose 5% compared to the previous school year, when 16% of students were considered ready for post-secondary education.

For comparison, 44% of students across Kentucky met or exceeded ACT benchmarks in reading during 2022-23 school year.

Beyond reading, 19% of students Holmes High School met the English college readiness benchmarks in the 2022-23 school year. Additionally, 11% were considered college-ready in math.

Holmes High School is the only school located in Covington Independent School District.

Despite escaping some of the pandemic's educational disruptions, Kentucky's achievement gaps have remained an issue since 2019. In the eighth-grade reading assessments, for example, Hispanic students scored eight points lower than their white peers, and the gap reached 15 points in math. Black students fared even worse, falling more than 20 points behind and facing a failure rate nearly double that of their white counterparts.
