The Covington Police Department has been recognized as the "Public Safety Department of the Year" by the Kentucky Women’s Law Enforcement Network (KWLEN). The award was presented at KWLEN's 25th annual conference in Bowling Green, highlighting Covington PD's efforts in promoting diversity and community engagement.

KWLEN acknowledged the department for its open attitude and commitment to equitable treatment. "The nominee demonstrated an open attitude, attentiveness to community needs and concerns, and a commitment to equitable treatment and the promotion of diversity," KWLEN stated about Covington PD.

Covington City Manager Ken Smith praised the department's dedication to maintaining safety and inclusivity. "Covington is a very diverse city with folks of all walks of life, and we’re very intentional about making everyone feel welcome. The men and women of the CPD are no exception in that effort," said Smith.

The recognition also applauds Chief Brian Valenti's strategic plan focusing on community-oriented policing. Valenti expressed his appreciation for the statewide acknowledgment: “Being recognized statewide by an organization such as KWLEN is very special to me.”

Sergeant Rachel White nominated the department for this honor, citing its ongoing efforts for inclusion and collaboration under Chief Valenti’s leadership. She noted significant changes following the release of Valenti’s strategic plan, including forming a new unit focused on community relations.

White emphasized that intelligence-led policing through data analysis aims to prevent crime effectively. She added that officers are receiving updated training on essential skills to better serve Covington's diverse population.

Through these initiatives, White believes Covington PD will continue to enhance its service to over 41,000 residents while fostering a safer and more inclusive community.
