Covington police union offers $500 scholarships for local students

The Covington Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #1 is offering a $500 college scholarship to high school graduates. The deadline for application submissions is July 1, 2025. This opportunity is available to graduating seniors from the class of 2025 who are planning to attend college.

Covington Police Officer Douglas Ullrich stated, "The FOP is proud to continue the tradition of helping to support the community with this scholarship as we invest in the future of Covington through encouraging the development of tomorrow’s leaders." He added, "We look forward to learning about some of the truly exceptional youth in Covington as we go through their applications."

Applicants are required to complete an application form and write an essay on the topic "What does Covington mean to me?" The essay should be between 400 and 700 words, original, and previously unpublished. Applications can be submitted via email at CovingtonFOPScholarship@gmail.com or mailed to FOP Scholarship, 516 E. 18th St., Covington, KY 41014.

Eligibility criteria include being a resident of Covington, having attended school in Covington, or being a dependent of an FOP or FOPA member. Although not every applicant will receive a scholarship due to its competitive nature, typically two scholarships are awarded each year.
