Covington commissioners' swearing-in to feature local culture at The Carnegie

Ron Washington Mayor | City of Covington

The Covington Board of Commissioners for 2025-26 will be officially sworn in during a public ceremony at The Carnegie arts venue in Covington, Kentucky. This event, scheduled for Friday evening, will begin at 6:30 p.m., with doors opening half an hour earlier.

The ceremony is designed to enhance the formal oath of office that has already been administered to meet legal requirements. Mayor-Elect Ron Washington stated, "This will be a celebration of all things Covington as we look toward the next two years of our city." He emphasized the importance of the event being more about public involvement than about the commissioners themselves.

Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Michelle Keller will conduct the ceremonial oath for Mayor Ron Washington and Commissioners Shannon Smith, Tim Downing, Tim Acri, and James Toebbe. Mayor Washington has served four years on the Commission and as mayor pro tem. Commissioner Shannon Smith returns for her fourth term after being the top vote-getter among candidates. Commissioner Tim Downing enters his fifth term, while Tim Acri and James Toebbe are beginning their first terms.

The event aims to highlight local culture by featuring food from various Covington restaurants and performances by local musicians. The Honor Guard will include representatives from city departments such as Fire, Police, and Public Works. Additionally, religious figures like Rev. Richard Fowler and Pastor Dan Francis will participate in the proceedings.

Food and beverages from several Covington eateries will be available along with a cash bar for attendees.

The Carnegie is situated at 1028 Scott Blvd., where parking information can be accessed through The Carnegie’s Directions and Parking page or via the City’s Parking web page.
