Covington prepares for festive weekend full of holiday events

Ken Smith City Manager | City of Covington

The Covington community is set for a weekend filled with holiday events, as locals and visitors alike are invited to partake in a variety of festive activities. The celebrations kick off with Braxton Brewing Co.’s Gingerbread House Competition, an event encouraging creativity without the need for architectural expertise. Participants will test their skills in assembling gingerbread structures adorned with sugary decorations.

On Friday, Covington’s Parks & Recreation Department hosts "Happy COV Holidays" at City Hall's Commission Chambers. The free event promises holiday-themed activities including photos with Santa, ornament decorating, and a mailbox for children's letters to Santa.

Art enthusiasts can attend the #spikow2.5 – 10 Year Wedding Event and Archive at Pique on Friday. This exhibition marks artists Clint Basinger and Lindsey Whittle's decade-long marriage by showcasing archives from their previous wedding events alongside various performances and displays.

Saturday offers "Brunch with Santa and Mrs. Claus" at The Standard, where children receive complimentary hot chocolate with meal purchases. A decorate-your-own mug station adds to the fun atmosphere.

Chad’s Christmas Extravaganza at Creative House of Art & Design invites families to enjoy holiday movies, milk, cookies, and crafting activities suitable for all ages on Saturday.

The weekend continues with an Ugly Sweater Party at The Standard featuring a White Elephant Gift Exchange. Additionally, Sunday introduces The Standard’s first Holiday Market under a heated tent offering goods from various vendors alongside drink specials.

Live music events throughout the weekend include performances by Big Boogie & Skylar Blatt, The Missy Werner Band, Sonny Moorman, Chris Runnels Trio, Mike Wade Quartet, Jessie Lyn’s Country Christmas show among others at local venues such as Madison Theater and Smoke Justis.

Other happenings include wine tastings, gin dinners, karaoke sessions at Frosthaus, farmers markets at Braxton Brewing Co., food tours in MainStrasse Village, and holiday bazaars at Purple Paisley Artisan Shop. Sunday's highlights feature a jazz brunch at Juniper’s and family workshops led by Nick Corbello.
